Brightening agents contain as active ingredient(s) 3-phenyl-7-aminocarbostyril of general formula :- (where R1, R2, R3 and R4 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl gps.; R5, R6 and R7 are independently hydrogen or alkyl or alkoxy gps., or halogen atoms). The cpds. are used for brightening various materials, esp. fibres, yarns, woven or knitted fabrics in polyvinyl chloride or polyamides. They may also be used in soaps and paints, esp. paints based on nitrocellulose or cellulose acetate. |
