The device contains a vibration switch or other sensor for recording the use of the toothbrush and feeding a signal to a timer module. A defined cleaning time elapses in the timer module, during which a visual or audible signal is output, and after which the signal is interrupted. If the vibration switch ceases to be activated, the signal is not output and an alarm is triggered after a second defined period. When the first period has elapsed a signal is output or the first signal is reset. The vibration switch can be deactivated for a third period to enable the brush to be cleaned and switched off without restarting the first period.
