The tape player comprises a frame, that defines a space for cassette insertion having leading surfaces, and an insertion aperture covered by a flap. The flap is positioned to close the aperture in an inactive state, and to be pivoted into the cassette insertion place, opening the aperture, when a cassette is inserted. A pivoting lever (10) is arranged on a shaft, that comprises two extending, opposite arms, one of which serves as a slide arm (13), and one as a latch arm (14). The lever is located adjacent the frame, so that the slide arm is biased into the cassette insertion space during an inactive state. During the insertion of a cassette the lever is pivoted into an active position. The slide arm and the latch arm are located at opposite positions, so that the latch arm holds the flap in an active position when a tape cassette is inserted.
