Benzylidenehydrazine compounds represented by general formula (1) and agricultural and horticultural pesticides containing the same as the active ingredient, wherein W represents -O-Q (wherein Q represents an optionally substituted 6-membered ring having one to three nitrogen atoms) or -CR<2>R<3>(XR<4>) (wherein R<2> represnts H, alkyl, cyano or halogeno, R<3> represents H, alkyl or halogeno, and R<4> represents H, alkyl, alkenyl, etc.); R<1> represents optionally substituted phenyl when W is -O-Q-, or optionally substituted phenyl, alkyl or haloalkyl when W is -CR<2>R<3>(XR<4>); Y represents -NR<5>R<6> (wherein R<5> represents H, and R<6> represents H, alkoxycarbonyl or acyl) when W is -O-Q, or -NR<5'>R<6'>, -N = CR<7'>NR<8'>R<9'> or -N = CR<7'>R<8'>R<9'> (wherein R<7'> and R<8'> are bonded to each other to form a 4- to 8-membered ring) when W is -CR<2>R<3>(XR<4>); and X represents S, SO, SO2, O or NR<22>.
