In order to obtain bundles (24) of folded polyethylene-paper sheets from a continuous web, an apparatus is used which comprises: means for moving the continuous web (2) supplied from a reel (1); means (3) for sterilising the web; means (4,5,6) for assymetrically folding each edge (20) leaving a longitudinal central area uncovered; means (8) for transversely precutting the web with the two assymetrical folds thus obtained; means (9) for detaching the precut leading-end (head) portion from the web; means (10) for longitudinally and symmetrically cutting the web portion thus detached, thereby obtaining a pair of assymetrically folded sheets (23); means (12) for gripping the pairs of adjacent sheets thus cut and for guiding them to a recovery means; means (13) for collecting the pairs of adjacent sheets, thus folded, into two adjacent, but separate, bundles; and means (14) for transferring the said bundles of folded sheets to the packaging station.
