Reduced wt., and high breaking strength radial pneumatic tyre

A pneumatic tyre with a radial carcass construction has a breaker layer comprising layers (11, 13) with parallel reinforcing cords at 10 - 35 deg to the tyre equator in a rubber matrix. Cords (17, 18) in one layer (11) cross the tyre equator in the opposite direction to those (18, 17) of the other layer (13). Cords in the layer(s) (11, 13) are polyester monofilaments. Also claimed are: (i) the tyre breaker layer (11, 13); (ii) a fabric strip (23) for reinforcing the bead region; and (iii) use of polyethylene naphthalate or polybutylene naphthalate monofilaments (17, 18) in the breaker layer or in a fabric strip reinforcement (23) for the bead area.
