The floor cleaning appts. (1) has steam conduit (6) arranged to direct steam onto floor surface (21) where at least a portion of the steam supply is converted into mechanical energy. There is a centrifugal fan (10) operating within aspiration conduit (11) evacuates dirty liquid from the floor into collecting tank (4). The fan is driven by steam turbine (5) supplied by the steam portion bled from the steam conduit. The turbine mechanically rotates floor contacting steam brushes (3).
