1,062,037. Determining corrosive effect. SOCIETE D'ETUDES CONTRE LA CORROSION (SECCO). Oct.15, 1963 [Oct. 17, 1962], No. 40636/63 Heading G1N. In an apparatus for determining the power of attack of an ambient environment on a metal material, a bored sample (1) Fig. 1 (not shown) of the metal is mounted on, and electrically connected to a hollow metal rod (2) for insertion in the environment, the outer surface and hollow bores being insulated at (6) - (9) to leave a surface of known area (10) in contact with the environment. The contact surface may be flat, hemispherical, or comprise a truncated cone. A potential is applied to the environment for example the earth through an electrode (5) in the bore, and earth pins (12) and the resulting current per unit of area is recorded on an instrument (11). The applied voltage is slowly varied and the results analyzed in a manner described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown). |
