WATER-BARRIER MATERIAL FOR CABLES

To provide a water impervious material for cables (water impervious tape) that has the excellent T-shaped and L-shaped waterproof performance and the excellent performance for winding to optical fiber cables, and further the small amount of entrance into the slot. A water absorbing composition layer is held on a surface of a sheet substrate, and a cover cloth is pressed on the water absorbing composition layer by means of thermal pressure, and water absorbing polymer particles contained in the water absorbing composition layer are held on the sheet substrate through synthetic rubber or thermoplastic elastomer-synthetic resin within a range of modulus from 10 to 45 kg/cm<2>, further a rigidity value as the water impervious material is equal to 1.2 gfcm<2>/cm in a longitudinal direction and greater than or equal to 0.6 gfcm<2>/cm in a lateral direction.
