An optical component for incorporation in an optical transmission network has a package (11) within which is mounted an optical device. One part (32) of a two-part connector is mounted on a wall (31) of the package and has means (33) defining an optical path through said one part, which optical path defining means is in optical communication with the device within the package. The one connector part (32) is configured to connect mechanically and optically with the other part (35) of the two-part connector, which other part (35) is of a complementary form to the one part (32) and is mounted on a package wall (34) of a further optical component (19). |
