PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an equipment for producing the porous glass preform for optical fiber, by which the controllability of a gas flow in a reaction vessel is improved and that of a flame position is enhanced. SOLUTION: Plural ventilators 37a to 37d for independently ventilating the inside of a reaction vessel 1 are provided. A target 5 is hung down into the vessel 1 from its upper opening 2. The flames 8 and 9 from burners 6 and 7 are butted to the lower end of the target 5 in the vessel 1, the glass fine particles synthesized in the flames are deposited on the tip of the target, and a porous glass preform 10 is produced.
