PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimicrobial agent capable of imparting antimicrobial activities to water, cosmetics, resins, coating materials, etc., by addition thereto or supportable on sand, etc., by using a specific salt of an alkylaminoalkylenecarboxylic acid or an adduct of ethylene oxide thereto. SOLUTION: This antimicrobial agent comprises a metallic salt of an alkylaminoalkylenecarboxylic acid of the formula [R is an 8-22C alkyl; R' is H, (CH2 )n COOX [X is Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ag or Au; (n) is 1 or 2] or (CH2 CH2 O)p H [(p) is 1-50]; (m) is 1 or 2] or its ethylene oxide adduct used therein. The compound of the formula is obtained by introducing an alkylenecarboxylic acid group into an 8-22C alkylamine and converting the resultant compound into the metallic salt or further adding a prescribed amount of ethylene oxide thereto. The compound of the formula is dispersed or solubilized in a liquid such as water without requiring a special assistant such as a solvent and is good in compatibility with synthetic resins or coating materials and capable of imparting good antimicrobial activities thereto. |
