An additive for a pig, cattle, poultry or other animal feed consists of a mixture of (1) rennet, papain and/or pepsin, and (2) calcium chloride, calcium acetate and/or calcium lactate. The . components (1) and (2) are preferably present in the proportion of 1 : 5; the additive may be included in animal feeds in proportions of between 50 and 200 grams per 100 kilograms of feed. It is stated that the calcium salt exerts an activating effect on the rennet, papain or pepsin (as the case may be). Examples disclose the comparative effect of feeds containing mixtures of rennet with calcium chloride in specified amounts. The following feed constituents are mentioned: carbohydrates, proteins, fish meal, meat meal, maize, corn, mill waste, potatoes, beet and other root crops, green fodder, silage, by-products from the processing of maize and manufacture of starch, mineral salts, skimmed milk and drinking water. p |
