PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the manufacture using a CIP(cold isostatic press) compacting method and a raw material that consists of an MgO-C material contg. graphite, of the refractory which is dense and has low porosity and the reduction in hot strength and the wear due to the molten steel flow of which are inhibited from occurring and further, which shows high corrosion resistance and spalling resistance. SOLUTION: This refractory is manufactured by using a raw material that consists of an MgO-C material contg. 5 to 20wt.% graphite and subjecting this raw material to CIP compacting under a 2.5 to 3.0t/cm<2> compacting pressure. Thus, the objective sleeve refractory which is dense and has low porosity and high hot strength can be manufactured. Also, according to the results of actual service tests performed in a commercial converter, this refractory shows an improved service life 1.4 to 1.5 times as long as that of a refractory manufactured under a 1.5t/cm<2> compacting pressure and excellent effects are brought about by using this refractory. |
