PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the cost reduction of a thermal printer and the life extension of a thermal head and at the same time, record a monochromatic image and a color image in high image quality respectively. SOLUTION: When recording a full color image, a color thermal recording paper 1 is drawn out of a color thermal recording web 1a and is transported in a specified direction. A yellow image is thermally recorded by a thermal head 18 for both Y-monochrome in combined use with the lowest thermal energy appropriate for a yellow thermal chromogenic layer as a top layer, and then is optically fixed using a photofixer 21 for Y. Next, a magenta image is thermally recorded in a magenta thermal chromogenic layer using a thermal head 19 for M, and then is optically fixed with a photofixer 22 for M. Finally a cyan image is thermally recorded in a cyan thermal chromogenic layer by a thermal head 20 for C. When recording a monochromatic binary image such as a character, the monochromatic binary image is thermally recorded using the thermal head 18 for Y-monochrome in combined use with the concurrent action to transport a monochrome thermal recording paper 10 to be drawn from a monochrome thermal recording web 10a, in a specified direction. Thus the monochromatic binary image is thermally recorded. |
