PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a metal carrier excellent in wash coat adhesion without deteriorating the resistance of a stainless steel foil to high-temp. oxidation by coating a honeycomb body formed from the foil with TiO2 by a sol-gel method. SOLUTION: A honeycomb body 1 is inserted in an outer cylinder 2, an air hole 4 with a stainless steel foil 3 as its wall is allowed to pierce the outer cylinder 2 in its axial direction to constitute the honeycomb body 1. A TiO2 coating layer 5 is formed on the surface of the foil 3 by a sol-gel method, and a wash coat layer 6 is baked on the coating layer 5. The honeycomb body 1 thus formed is obtained by winding the flat foil and corrugated foil one on another around a winding shaft and joining the contact parts of both foils by diffusion bonding, etc. |
