PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new Burkhorderia PHN-5 stock as a microorganism belonging to genus Burkhorderia, having decomposability of polycyclic condensed aromatic hydrocarbons and capable of readily and efficiently purifying water or soil containing polycyclic condensed aromatic hydrocarbons. SOLUTION: This new Burkhorderia PHN-5 stock (FERM P-15024) belongs to genus Burkhorderia and has decomposability to polycyclic condensed aromatic hydrocarbons. The new microorganism can efficiently decompose and remove polycyclic condensed aromatic hydrocarbons such as naphthalene, phenanthrene, anthracene, acenaphthene and pyrene and can readily and efficiently purify water or soil polluted with the polycyclic condensed aromatic hydrocarbons. The new microorganism is obtained by separating a stock wherein a microorganism belonging to an aerobic genus Burkhorderia has high decomposability to various polycyclic condensed aromatic hydrocarbons, as a result of screening soil in Kyoto prefecture. |
