A process for protecting, especially against corrosion, a silver or silver-coated part, wherein a Cu-Sn alloy comprising from 53 to 75% copper and from 25 to 47% tin and optionally comprising up to 10% zinc is deposited on the said part over a thickness of less than 0.01 mu m. Another aspect of the invention is a silver or silver-coated part additionally having a protective coating formed from a Cu-Sn or Cu-Sn-Zn alloy, with a thickness of less than 0.01 mu m.
