ACYL COENZYME A CHOLESTEROL ACYL TRANSFERASE ACTIVITY INHIBITOR AND COMPOSITION FORMULATED THEREWITH

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inhibitor having acyl coenzyme A cholesterol acyl transferase activity (ACAT) inhibitory effect, thus useful for treating and preventing diseases due to the disorder of cholesterol homeostasis in vivo through its formulation in foods, medicines or cosmetics. SOLUTION: This inhibitor is a compound of formula I [R1 is an arylalkyl which may have hydroxyl group; R2 is a 2-10C acyl] which may have hydroxyl group, e.g. osmanthuside B of formula II. The compound of formula I can be easily obtained by subjecting a plant body (pref. leaves) of Ligustrum pulpurasence or Ligustrum pedoncrale to extraction with a polar solvent followed by purifying the extract through a column packed with silica gel, ODS or ion exchange resin. At least one kind of compound selected from those of formula I is put to pharmaceutical manufacturing together with arbitrary ingredients such as excipient and binder to be conventionally used in medicinal compositions to obtain the other objective medicinal composition.
