Novel substituted thienylethylamines of the formula: (IV) wherein R is benzyl, which is ring-substituted by at least one halogen atom, and R1 is lower alkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl are disclosed. The compounds (IV) are starting products for the production of antithrombolytically effective pharmaceutical agents. A process is also disclosed for the production of the compounds (IV) from substituted enthanolamines by their reaction with a strong base, further reaction of the resultant aziridines with 2-thienyllithium, and conversion of the resultant thienylethylamines with a compound of formula RX, wherein R is as defined above and X is halogen.
