PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester fiber having high-orientation continuous striated grooves on the fiber surface, characteristic rayon-like feeling, dry feeling and high water- absorption properties. SOLUTION: This polyester fiber is obtained by spinning a core-sheath conjugate fiber using a polyester having ethylene terephthalate as the main recurring unit and containing 0.5-5wt.% of an organic sulfonic acid metal salt expressed by RSO3 M (R is a 3-30C alkyl, or a 7-40C aryl or alkylaryl; M is an alkali metal) as the sheath part and a polyester consisting of a recurring unit containing >=85mol% ethylene terephthalate as the core part, drawing the fiber and subsequently subjecting it to a thermal treatment at 120 deg.C for >=10sec. Then, the fiber is treated in an aqueous solution of an alkaline compound to reduce the weight of the fiber by >=1% to obtain the objective modified polyester fiber. The obtained fiber has a number of high- orientation continuous striated grooves on the fiber surface in such a manner that each of the groove is 0.1-3μm in width and >=5μm in length, and the adjacent arbitrary striated grooves have a space of <=5μm between them. Further, the fiber has a strength of >=1.5g/d and an elongation of >=10%, and it has fibrils of 0.05-5μm in diameter and >=10μm in length on the surface. |
