An adjustable wheel-mounting for a rotary-scythe lawn-mower comprises a wheel-support 23, which may be part of the mower-chassis or a part attached thereto, and which has a series of holes 16, each able to receive the wheel-axle 10, and being interconnected by a slot, the axle having an end-portion which passes through one of the holes and carries a nut 18 threaded on to the end-portion and also having a main portion extending on the side of the support away from the nut to carry a wheel-bearing 12, the outer end of the axle beyond the wheel-bearing having a hand-wheel 14 whereby the axle may be rotated to tighten or loosen the nut, the nut being retained within a cap-disc 20 which permits it only to be loosened sufficiently to enable the axle to be moved up and down in the slot to an alternative position. The nut has an oblong extension 19 which is located within one of the holes in the support, each hole having a ledge 17 against which the extension abuts, the arrangement being that the nut can be rotated about a 1/4 of a turn by the handwheel, whereas it is locked against the cap-disc but the oblong extension then lies parallel to the slot, enabling the axle to be moved up or down to an alternative position. Contra-rotation of the hand-wheel will then cause the extension to abut the ledge 17 in the next hole. |
