The apparatus has a numbering unit for the individual picture negatives in a developed film, and a central unit for storing and processing the numbered negatives, assigning to each negative a number corresponding to its position in the film, and fitting the negatives into a holder (12) which forms the index plate. The apparatus also has an editing unit for the index plate, incorporating an ink jet, laser or thermal transfer printer. The holder (12) is in the form of a pouch, and the editing unit incorporates a system for developing photo-sensitive paper and a video screen.
