The brake system comprises blades (10), of metal or plastics, which have a flexible flat portion (12) attached to anchor sections (16). These anchor sections are mounted on longitudinal slots in the body (7) of the sub-munition. Prior to launch, the blades are bent and held flat by the by a ring forming part of the body (2) of the shell. When the shell is fired, the ring is ejected from the shell and the blades extend under centrifugal force, to brake the spinning of the sub=munition.
