The contact (10) is attached to one of the doors of an elevator (12) to indicate when the doors are closed. It includes two conducting pins (14,16) covered by insulating sleeves (20). The pins are connected to a wire (22) housed inside an insulating board (28) attached to the elevator door. Two sockets (32,34) are fixed on the door frame (36) and connected to an electrical circuit via two conductors (38,40). The circuit supplies a control system which operates the elevator. When the door is closed the two pins engage the sockets and close the electrical circuit.
