The metal frame section (10) is fitted into an opening in a partition (1) designed to receive a door or window (7). It has a central projecting section (11) which acts as a stop for the door or window. It also comprises two ends (12) with turned-over edges (13) meeting the outer surfaces of the partition. The side of the frame section which receives the door or window has a recess (21). The recess is open towards the door or window edge and contains a strip (22) of an intumescent material. The recess is shallow and rectangular, trapezoid or triangular in section, with the strip of corresponding thickness and shape. The strip can be fixed in place by adhesive.
