<p>An electromagnetic shear lock (10) comprising an electromagnet assembly (20) which is mounted to a door frame (16) and an armature assembly (120) which is mounted to a door (12), the electromagnet assembly and armature assembly defining a gap (18). The armature assembly (120) includes an armature (122) mounted on a leaf spring (144). The electromagnet assembly (20) includes an electromagnet (28) which is mounted to a mounting plate (22). A pair of springs (84) which engage opposite end portions of the mounting plate (22) bias the mounting plate and electromagnet (28) away from the armature (122). When the electromagnet (28) is energized and is attracted to the armature (122), the mounting plate (22) slides longitudinally along a guide member (74) against the force of the springs (84) and the electromagnet (28) is displaced to close the gap (18).</p> |
