A safety device for gearboxes or oil tanks, comprising a bolt fixed to the bottom of an oil tank, a gearbox or an engine by the thread. There is a depressed slot at the tail end surface of the bolt, a permanent magnet is installed in the concave and enclosed by a metallic or nonmetallic net cover. The ferrous sludge within the gearbox can be attracted onto the magnet through the net cover. Such an arrangement can considerably increase the life of the engine, oil tank or gearbox, improve its safety in using and also has a good effect of lubrication to moving elements.
