The compressor has 2 identical cast metal housing halves (3,4), provided around their peripheries with corresponding radially projecting coupling lugs (7) having openings (8) in which coupling screws (9) are inserted to secure the housing halves together. The outside face of each coupling lug has a multi-sided recess (10) for receiving a corresponding multi-sided screw nut (11) at one end of the aligned coupling lug openings and the rounded head (12) of the coupling screw at the opposite end.
