The nozzle (1) of the gun forms a first chamber (9) in a body or housing (2), at the forward end of which are one or more first openings (5). A passage protruding into the body delivers water via an outlet (10,11) into the chamber and a union delivers compressed air from a further source (16) into the chamber. Both the water and the compressed air are delivered at a pressure less than three bar, the water pressure being typically approximately one bar. The water outlet can be opposite the nozzle opening and on the nozzle lengthwise axis. The chamber cross-section can be such that no expansion of the compressed air takes place in it. Its cross-section can be constant, or can increase towards the outlet.
