The description relates to a light generator for supplying optical fibres or light guides with light which consists essentially of a housing with cooling fins and apertures, a light guide (14), one end of which has one face (7) opening into the inside of the housing, a high-powered lamp (9) with a concave mirror (8) and an i/r filter arranged between the concave mirror aperture and the end of the light guide. The essential feature of the invention is that two convex lenses (10, 11) are fitted between the concave mirror (8) and the end of the light guide (14) in such a way that the reflected and concentrated light falls fully into the light guide (14). The lenses (10, 11) have an i/r filtering coating and are arranged in the housing in transverse walls (18, 20) in such a way that they form axially sequential, closed chambers (22, 23, 24) inside the housing. There are also vertically opposite upper and lower ventilation apertures (27, 28) in the housing wall, whereby each chamber has at least one pair of apertures, thus achieving the optimum chimney cooling effect.
