The invention relates to a process for the production of organofunctionally modified aerogels, a water glass being gelled by polycondensation and subsequently being converted into an aerogel by drying thus obtaining the gel structure, characterised in that the gel is reacted before drying with at least one bifunctional, organic compound, at least one functional group being used to bond to the aerogel, whereas the others are kept. The invention also relates to aerogels which can be obtained from this process, and the use thereof.
