The cathode has an emission material insert (E) and a cathode heater (HZ) that is secured in a ceramic ring (KT). Struts (P) carry the connections (V1,V2) for the cathode heater. Grid elements (G1,G21,G22) are positioned in front of the cathode and are set into a holder (H). A distance piece (D) of insulating material, e.g. ceramic, sets the gap between the carrier ring and the first grid element. A safety ring (S) is soldered to the grid.
