In a document copying apparatus, a feed conveyer for a stack of copy sheets is actuated in response to the movement of a document towards a projection station to deliver a single copy sheet to a further conveyer (for moving it through an exposure station), when the document reaches a predetermined position along its path of travel. As shown, on actuating a start switch, a sheet of copy material, having a zinc oxide photo-conductive insulating layer on a paper base, is fed from a stack 103 by roller 80, 82 until its leading end operates switches # 3 and # 6, which de-energize electromagnetic clutch 128 and light an indicator lamp to show that the printer is ready to receive an original between rollers 273 and 274 which, together with all the other rollers (except 80, 82, 118, 120 and idler roller 140), are continuously driven by chain 132 from motor 138. The leading end of the original operates a group of switches, two of which have the effect of momentarily energizing electromagnetic clutch 128 so that the copy sheet is brought into the hip of rollers 147, 148. A further switch energizes lamp 36 and corona discharge unit 27 (see Specification 1, 71, 028). The photo-conductive layer of the copy sheet is negatively charged as it is fed through the corona unit 27. As soon as the trailing end of the copy sheet clears switches # 3 and # 6, the clutch 128 is again energized to bring a further sheet of copy material into the ready position. The image of the original is projected on to the copy sheet while both are advanced by band conveyers 300 and 160, respectively. The original passes beneath illuminated aperture 342 and its image is formed at gate 268 by projection objective 40 and plane mirror 38. The arrival of the leading end of the copy sheet at development tank 44 operates a holding switch # 2 which maintains unit 27 and lamp 36 energized until the trailing end of the original has cleared aperture 342. The circulation of air, by fan 139, assists in the drying and fixing of the developed image.</p>
