1,070,966. Klystrons. SPERRY RAND CORPORATION. June 12, 1964 [June 12, 1963], No. 24459/64. Heading H1D. A multi-cavity klystron is constructed of individual resonators which are electrically pretuned to a desired frequency and are then assembled to form a unitary structure in one brazing operation, the cavities being trim tuned after the brazing operation. The units are partly formed from deformable material, and the pretuning step comprises deforming the deformable parts. A supporting rod threads the drift tubes connecting each adjacent cavity, and each cavity which is initially resonant at a higher frequency than the desired are tuned simultaneously to a lower frequency by altering the interaction gap. The formed cavities may be stagger tuned so that the klystron operates over a broad frequency band. Individual cavities are trim-tuned by adjustment of a flexible diaphragm which forms part of the conductive boundary of each cavity. |
