PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to read additional information with naked eyes by recording optically readable patterns in the regions outside the data recording region of a recording layer. SOLUTION: The surface 2 of an optical recording medium 1 is irradiated with a laser beam 4 of prescribed power adjusted in focus by a lens 3, by which the recording layer is crystallized and a phase transition type optical recording medium 1 is initialized. This initialization is executed to the regulated initialization region from the recording character of the optical recording medium 1. The initialization is also executed in regions off the regulated initialization region and is executed by irradiation with, for example, the laser beam under pulse modulation. The intensity of crystallization or the crystallized parts and the parts made to remain in the state of an amorphous state are generated by the pulse modulation, therefor, the section which is irradiated with a laser beam 4 is recorded with patterns which are recognized with the naked eyes. The patterns recorded by this pulse modulation are set at the patterns varying with each of the initializing devices. As a result, the additional recording of the information on the production of the medium on the optical recording medium 1 at a low cost is made possible. |
