PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the rate at which a nickel active material is utilized in an alkaline storage battery and batter characteristics such as high-rate discharging characteristic by suppressing formation of a lump of particles caused by caking of the particles when fabricating the nickel active material through the alkali heat treatments of nickel hydroxide having a cobalt compound on its surface. SOLUTION: Particles of nickel hydroxide with cobalt hydroxide precipitated on their surfaces are stored on the mesh disk 4 of a fluid granulating device 1. Hot air is fed into a hot air inlet 5 form the outside, air is exhausted to the outside from an air outlet 8, and as the particles are heated by the hot air they are stirred by a stirring blade 3 and distributed by means of the hot air. Under these conditions a pump 9 is operated to spray alkali aqueous solution from a spray nozzle 7. After the spraying, stirring is continued in stream of hot air to complete alkali heat treatments. |
