PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin compsn. for the protective film of a color filter having low hygroscopicity and excellent in heat resistance, transparency and moisture resistance by dissolving polyquinoline resin or polyquinoxaline resin in an org. solvent. SOLUTION: Polyquinoline resin or polyquinoxaline resin is dissolved in an org. solvent. The polyquinoline resin or polyquinoxaline resin is a polymer having a quinoline ring or quinoxaline ring in each of the repeating units. The polyquinoline resin is preferably polyquinoline resin having repeating units represented by formula I. The polyquinoxaline resin is preferably polyquinoxaline resin having repeating units represented by formula II. In the formulae I, II, R<1> is alkyl, aryl, etc., (m) is an integer of 0-5, each of Z<1> and Z<2> represents independently 'no chemical bond' or arylene, Y is -O- or -O-A-O- and A is arylene, hetero-arylene, etc.
