PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a scab, and to industrially and stably manufacture a plate stock when performing the hot rolling of an austenitic single phase stainless steel on whichδferrite is not generated after solidification. SOLUTION: When a S content in a slab is 0.0015wt.% or below or when setting limits so that the S content is less than 0.0050wt.% and a B content is 0.002 to 0.010wt.%, and with respect to the shape of the slab to be subject to hot rolling, when defining the interval of short sides opposing each other in a section perpendicular to the rolling direction of the slab as a slab width (w), in the inside of the section, a slab thickness becomes the maximum at an edge part in the width direction and it becomes the minimum in a center part. The ratio (= hc/he) of the minimum thickness hc in the center part and the maximum thickness he at the edge part, falls into the range of 0.93 to 0.98, and it must be set so that the ratio (= Sr/Se) of the actual cross-sectional area Sr of the section and an area Se to be expressed by he×w, falls into the range of 0.940 to 0.990.
