PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inspect bottles having various shapes by one apparatus by providing an interval adjusting means and adjusting the holding gap between bottles. SOLUTION: When a bottle B is inspected, the handle 52 of an interval adjusting means 50 is operated in matching relation to the diameter of the bottle B to adjust the positions of movable stages 36, 37 and the bottles B are adjusted to the interval capable of holding each of the bottles B by the attachments 41, 42 of a side surface grasping chain conveyor 40. At first, when the bottles B to be inspected are successively supplied in an erected state by a first conveyor 11, an in-feed screw 38 arranges the supplied bottles B at a predetermined pitch (p) and the guide attachment 42 of a second side surface grasping conveyor 44 comes into contact with the bottles B to grasp the bottles to feed them to a top port inspection position P1 . The presence of the flaw of the top port of each bottle is detected at the top port inspection position P1 by a top port surface inspecting camera 23.
