PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optimum correction value without labor and time for obtaining the correction value of a bar code read position. SOLUTION: In a device provided with a mechanism for feeding, transporting and discharging a medium where a bar code is provided on a surface and with a mechanism for scanning a bar code reader from above the bar code on the surface of the medium and for optically reading the bar code, a standard medium where the bar code is provided at a correct position on the medium is sent into the regular read position (S0 and S1), a bar code read operation by the scanning of the bar code reader is executed at every shift of the standard medium while the standard medium is sequentially shifted at every minimum shift interval within prescribed shift ranges provided before and behind the regular read position, and normal or abnormal information on the read result is stored (S4-S8). Then, the correction value for setting the bar code read position to be the optimum one is calculated based on information of the first position and the last position, where the bar code can normally be read by the bar code read position. |
