PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy of recognizing an oblique white line in an image for specifying the travel lane of an own vehicle. SOLUTION: The white line recognizing apparatus for extracting the bright or dark change as an edge to recognize the white line image for specifying the travel line of an own vehicle comprises a horizontal and vertical operator 31 for extracting the edges of an image of the same part in the horizontal and vertical directions, and edge extraction judging means 32 for judging the extraction of the edge when at least one edge is included in the combination of a pair of edges extracted in the horizontal and vertical directions. If the interval of the two edges judged as the edge by the means 32 is constant, it is recognized as a white line. |
