PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the dressing work of a stepped grinding wheel face and simplify a dresser. SOLUTION: It is a dress method of a double end surface grinding machine in which each opposing face of a pair of rotary grinding wheel which oppose to the axial direction consists of a grinding wheel face 43 on outer peripheral side and a grinding wheel face 44 on inner circumferential side which overhangs on a mating grinding wheel side from the grinding wheel face 43 on outer peripheral side through a stepped section 45 and which dresses by a dresser which reciprocates in parallel with the grinding wheel face between opposing grinding wheel faces. A single stone dresser 8 having one single stone tool for each grinding wheel on both sides in the axial direction is used as the dresser. By reciprocating the single stone dresser 8 in a section from an outside position in the radial direction to a stepped position, the grinding wheel face 43 on outer peripheral side is dressed, and then both grinding wheel are moved in the axial direction in the direction in which they come apart by a distance which is equivalent to the amount of a predetermined difference in steps. After that, by reciprocating the single stone dresser 8 in a section between the stepped position to a grinding wheel central part position, the grinding wheel on inner circumferential side is dressed. |
