The invention consists in a method by means of which, on a roll of corrugated cardboard 1, a longitudinal slit 13 is produced along the entire length of said roll, allowing it to be folded once a portion of a convenient length has been separated from the roll; the apparatus for producing the slit consists of an entrainment component set up by, for example, two contiguous, in-line rollers 2, 3 and the actual slit 13 is produced by pressure from rings 9 arranged in a stationary or removable manner on a roller 8 in line with another 7 which serves to support it. Applicable to the handling of rolls for forming boxes or packaging of indefinite length. <IMAGE>
