In a system for supplying supplementary, for example, up-to-date information to a computer user, a storage device is supplied to the user. Stored in the storage device is user information, such as audiovisual and/or alphanumeric data, for reproduction by the computer, together with access data defining a connection to an information source, or a plurality of information sources, for supplying supplementary information to the computer. The storage device also contains instructions for causing the computer to convert supplementary information received from an information source in accordance with a style particular to that source to a reproduction style compatible with that of the user information in the storage device. The system has particular application in computer graphics, and to CD-ROMs containing music videos and encyclopedias for which up-to-date information can be supplied.
