The gear mechanism has a gear housing containing a gear element and a shaft (4) connected to the gear element. The gear shaft (4) is mounted in at least one bearing (5) formed of a dish and a fixing fitted into the dish. The bearing (5) has an opening radial relative to the shaft axis. The fixing is inserted through the opening after insertion of the shaft (5) through the axial opening of the bearing (5). The location of the fixing in the bearing can then be fixed. The radial opening of the bearing is preferably arranged perpendicular to the main loading direction of the ball through the shaft (4). The fixing is preferably made of at least two fixing parts movable relative to each other.
