Described is an accumulator-powered lawn mower in which the battery (10) together with the housing surrounding it can be inserted into a shaft in the mower chassis. The battery housing includes a handle (12) with which the battery can be inserted and removed. When the battery is inserted, contact is made automatically between sliding-contact lugs (32) which run parallel to each other in one of the (or in different) battery-housing walls and make contact with matching contact springs (34) in the battery shaft, the sliding motion resulting in a self-cleaning action for the contacts. In order to increase the contact pressure, the contact springs in the battery shaft are reinforced by helical compression springs (36). While this is the preferred embodiment, it is also possible to mount the contact springs in the battery housing and the contact lugs in the battery shaft. The handle is linked to locking means (22) which engage with it when it is folded into matching recesses (24) where it is physically locked in place. The battery housing is supported on the shaft floor by elastic means, e.g. helical compression springs (30). |
