摘要 <p>This invention pertains to the field of transport and more particularly to vehicle brake mechanisms, the commonest of which are shoe, disk or band brake mechanisms. The brake mechanisms include expansion devices and associated actuating mechanisms. The forms of the expansion devices and the types of actuating mechanisms may be different. Actuation of the expansion mechanisms is effected with a predetermined energy which increases with the mass of the vehicle. At the same time, the rotating parts of the drum or disk accumulate kinetic energy which could usefully be exploited for braking. This can be achieved with an actuating mechanism in the form of a braking cylinder (for example) fitted with a non-rotating part such as a shoe. When pressing the shoe onto the rotating drum or disk, the actuating mechanism triggers the rotation of the expansion device to which it may be attached. The expansion device actuates the non-rotating parts such as the shoe or band, thus effecting braking. It is thus possible to use the kinetic energy of the rotating parts for braking, i.e. perform an energy-recovery process, when the actuating mechanism of the expansion device is fitted with non-rotating parts.</p>
