[Also in Division H2] The battery 25 supplying the driving motor of a hand-held, electrically operated device, Fig. 1 (not shown), is charged through a diode 35 supplied from a coil 20 which becomes the secondary winding of a transformer formed when the coil-containing end of the device is inserted into a magnetic cup-like receptacle 40 enclosing a coil 46 connectible to an A.C. mains supply to act as the primary winding of the transformer. Engagement of the device with the wall 42 of receptacle 40 is facilitated by a stud 44 mounted in the latter and insertable into a recess 19 in the base of the device, whose coil-containing end and the stud 44 are also made of magnetically permeable material. The coil 46 and its terminals 52, 53 are enclosed in potting material 57. The hand-held device is generally similar to that of Specification 1,076,353, apart from minor alterations to the position of the diode 35 and to the members intermediate the motor (not shown), the battery 25 and the coil 20.</p> |
