A unidirectional buccal delivery system for the delivery of therapeutic agents over an extended period of time. The delivery system includes a matrix for releasing the therapeutic agent into the oral cavity at a sustained rate and a means for securing the matrix to the palate or other adequate regions in the oral cavity.
